My reasons for opening a library

I was born and raised in a really poor and numerous family (9 sons); my father only earned the minimum wage, so most of the sons had to work out of necessity from a really early age.

From the age of 6, I was already the newspaper on the streets and I rented cartoon magazines to the kids who went to the market; oddly enough these two informal jobs got me initiated in the enjoyment of reading.

During my childhood, I didn’t study due to poverty. Some of my brothers had to drop out of school to work. In my case, and with lots of effort and the teachings of my parents, I learned to work in different professions to pay for my studies.

When I was around 18 years old, I owned my first book and I had great care and affection for it, even so that I still have it with me to this day.Having studied in public universities and given classes for more than 30 years to students of many social classes, I realized the need there is in Mexico to strengthen the education -especially basic education: learning to read, write and to comprehend.

Then I came up with the idea to work with children and young people, so they could have new opportunities in life.

This is how, having acquired numerous books on the way, I decided to open a space for the children and youth of Tepoztlán, first, then the ones from the state of Morelos and for Mexico, in general, so they could study in the same books I did and so they had the chance to learn science, art and so on… converting themselves into better citizens.

These books were mine, now they’re yours.

They’re for people of Tepoztlán and whoever wants to come and transform themselves through knowledge. Welcome!
